Tasty Pizza

Two words

DONAIR PLATE

If you don't know what a Donair plate is allow me to fill you in. Picture a regular donair but replace the pita bread with a glorious pile of golden french fries....thats right. A donair plate is everything that's inside a donair (the meat, the cheese, the onions, the tomato....etc) on a bed of french fries.

I was lucky enough to have one just the other day from a small place just down the street from me called Tasty Pizza at 760 Main street Dartmouth. This was my first experience with a donair plate and not only was I blown away, it is also currently tipping the charts as one of the best donair dishes yet.

There is nothing negative to say about it, you would think that you miss the crispy, yet tender pita but you don't the golden french fries make an excellent substitute.

I also realized that the majority of my donair excursions have been on the Dartmouth side of HRM so I'm looking to hit some places in Halifax. So let me know of your favorite places on the Halifax side of the bridges. You can leave comments below or on either my facebook or twitter pages: devinlockyer

Pizza Pro

Pizza Pro

Hey bloggers

Last night after the worst shift at work ever, I decided to get a donair. Pizza Pro was the closest place to me and I decided to give it a shot. It was awesome! It was all very classic and exactly what I was looking for.

I'm not sure what they do to the pita but I know that every place needs to do it cause it was thinner but crispier, which made it easier to get a little bit of everything with each mouthful. Not as many veggies as I would have liked but the onions on it were like little flavor crystals that exploded each time you took a bite. The one thing that did kind bother me was the price I only got a medium and it cost more than a large donair at most other places.

I wouldn't say that it the best in the city but it is awesome and perfectly greasy.

Keep making those suggestions and I'll keep trying them out.

Greek-Fest

Greek-Fest

OPA! Greek-fest in Halifax was this weekend and of course I went, me and my buddy Tim had an awesome Donair, The Greeks defiantly know how to do it.

I'm glad that they used real homemade donair sauce, I've noticed that some places (especially outside Hal-Town) are using tzatziki. Which may be a classic in Greece but not in Halifax. With that said the sauce was awesome and the pita underneath was crispy and had just the right amount of grease. Hugh pieces of tomato and onions, which were fresh and juicy. And the spices on the donair meat was unreal...unreal.

Now I realize that I'm saying all these good things about Greek-fest donairs and the festival is over for this year but that will give you all the more reason to go next year. Defiantly an awesome place to go and check out all the Greek festivities, and they have all kinds of other Greek foods like: Souvlaki, Baklava, and Galaktoboureko. All of which are A-1.

Like always if you have any suggestions or comments leave here or on facebook and twitter (devinlockyer)

Anapolie Pizza

Hey guys,

I know its been a real long time since my last post but I have one now and its a good one.

Tonight I went to Anapolie pizza on Cole Harbour road in Dartmouth and had not a donair but Donair Pogo's and they were awesome. Its a big piece of delicious donair meat wrapped in a nice batter (not to much batter, just the right amount of dough to meat ratio) then its deep-fried. They serve it with.....nothing but donair sauce which is just the classic sauce not to thick not to runny, perfect for dipping. You get two pogos for under $5 bucks and that's an awesome deal cause their bigger then you'd think

I really recommend checking it out. Next up I heard that there are donair eggrolls so if you've had them let me know where the best ones are at and I'll check it out.

Keep making suggestions and comments and I'll try to not make it as long between posts.

Ronnie's 2 For 1 Pizza

Hey Donair lovers,

Today me and my buddy Tim went to Ronnie's 2 For 1 Pizza on Main street. I was hearing some good things so I thought I would give it a try... I was not disappointed.

Ronnies makes a great Donair they kill the amount of donair sauce which is always a plus. TONS of fresh veggies which I think makes you feel like your eating something kinda better for you which helps to justify the meal...who am I kidding donairs are deadly but so AWESOME. I also noticed that they have some different type of spice in their meat cause it was delicious. I would recommend doing what we did and eat it at the place, because when you eat it there they don't wrap it up they give it to you on a hugh plate and it adds to the whole experience. Another thing I like to mention was the price-to-food ratio, even for the small and medium donairs you get an excellent amount of food for their low prices.

Overall awesome donair, thanks to all those that recommended it keep read and making suggestions.

Basha Pizza on Cole Harbour Road

So I know that it has been a while since my last post and I'm disappointed by that fact because it means I haven't had a donair in a while...well tonight that changed In the middle of an ice/snow storm I went to Basha Pizza on Cole Harbour Road.

Basha Pizza is one of my all time favorite pizza places, so posting about their donair may be a little bias, but whatever. Basha makes an awesome donair, excellent veggies, meat, sauce all around good, its a solid choice for donairs. There is no need to rate each category cause each aspect is good. I highly recommend trying it.

Their located just up from the fire station on Cole Harbour Road, Dartmouth (972 COLE HARBOUR RD, DARTMOUTH, NS B2V 1E7 902-435-6660)
